This storyboard was created as part of a larger class animation, centered around atmosphere, and tension. The sequence follows a girl walking deeper into a chaotic environment, reflected in the background, before eventually confronting a large gorilla-like species, building suspense through environmental changes, camera movement, and visual pacing.
The goal of this project was to explore cinematic storytelling within a short 45–60 second animated sequence while also planning for a synchronized music soundtrack. I wanted the storyboard to gradually transition from calm and controlled visuals into a more unsettling and chaotic environment, allowing the pacing and camera work to visually reflect the emotional shift in the story.
Throughout the storyboard, I focused heavily on camera angles and visual progression to communicate movement and tension before any final animation work began. I focused on the environmental transformations to guide the viewer through the scene while hinting at the danger ahead instead of explicitly showing the audience the entire story up-front.
One of the biggest challenges during the process was creating a cohesive story within such a short runtime but balancing the pacing and character movement ensured careful planning to ensure the sequence still felt readable. I also struggled with maintaining accurate perspective during the more dramatic downward camera angles and dynamic viewpoints throughout the storyboard panels.
Through this project, I learned more about visual pacing and how camera movement can influence storytelling and emotional tone within animation. Looking back, I would continue refining some of the perspective-heavy shots and transitions, but I am proud of the overall atmosphere and progression established within the storyboard.
